Pahoa Crash Monday
A violent crash but no serious injuries.
A Waikiki couple and some Kaimuki residents are counting their blessings after a tumultuous crash in a quite Kaimuki neighborhood.
Two of those victims, Kelvin and Cathy Itakura, are in disbelief tonight.
"I can't believe it. Here we go again," exclaimed Kelvin Itakura as he looks back at his smashed SUV.
While driving home from dinner at Kahala Mall just after 6 p.m. Monday, the Itakura's SUV was side-swiped by a Toyota Highlander at the corner of 22nd Avenue and Pahoa. The force of the collision sent their longtime family vehicle into a somersault.
"It flipped us over a couple times and as you can see (laughs) it's a total wreck," Kelvin explained.
Bystanders then came to the aid of the couple, pulling them from the wreckage.
"They were breaking out the windshield in the meantime while Cathy was cutting me out of the sea," Kelvin continued. "And I'd just like to thank all of those people."
The Itakura's say they can't believe their bad luck with Kelvin having just returned from a series of medical procedures on the mainland.
"The things that have been happening to us in the last two to three years. Thank God."
