A World War II veteran whose voting picture went viral on the Internet has died, according to a family friend.
The photo showed Frank Tanabe in the process of casting his vote on an absentee ballot with help from his daughter Barbara. He was battling liver cancer.
Law requires that the ballot be declared invalid. The state Department of Health would have to notify the city clerk about Tanabe's death. If the ballot is at the "receive" stage, it can be flagged for removal. If it is beyond that point, the ballot goes into a sealed can and may not be removed.
Tanabe was 93 years old.
