Vehicle hits tree; passenger in critical condition

According to Honolulu police, a man was transported in critical condition to the trauma center.  He was a passenger in the back of the car.

The driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a coconut tree on Kahala Avenue near Hunakai Street around 4:30 a.m. Sunday morning.  The driver and another passenger were taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Police believe alcohol may be a factor in this crash.  All lanes have reopened several hours after the accident.
