Honolulu police shutdown the Varsity Circle area near the University of Hawaii Manoa lower campus Thursday afternoon for pursuit of a potentially armed suspect.

Police caught up with the male suspect around 2:20 p.m. at which time the shutdown was lifted.

Initial reports indicate that the man had threatened his girlfriend with a gun, prompting a response from the special weapons unit of the HPD.
