Coast Guard Tarawa rescue
After thousands of miles in the air, and days of searching the open ocean there was success in the search for some missing fisherman.
On Monday, a Coast Guard rescue team set-out on a seven hour flight to Tarawa Atoll.
Then, another three hour flight to Majuro Atoll, 80 miles Northwest of Tarawa.
The team on a C-130 were searching for a 17-foot fishing boat with three fisherman from Kiribati stranded at sea for several days.
They couldn't find them the first day so they dropped three current-tracking buoys and adjusted their coordinates.
Then found them the next day.
We talked to Aircraft Commander Lt. Brian De Lima by phone.
He spotted the men waving frantically, clearly in distress.
They swooped low, dropped water, beacons, life-vests and food.
Then called over a nearby catamaran to rescue the men.
