Four utility poles owned by Kauai Island Utility Cooperative fell in Waimea town Friday morning, according to the KIUC.
One of the poles on Waimea Road hit a car, injuring the driver. Officials said the extent of the injuries are not known but witnesses said they appeared to be minor. He is being treated at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waimea.
Repair crews have shut off power to homes and businesses in the area and the KUIC is hoping to replaces the poles and restore power by late Friday evening.
The cause of the falling poles is under investigation.
Kauai resident Mandalyn McCabe said she saw a utility pole fall, which narrowly missed her husband's truck by about a foot.
McCabe said she was watching her husband back up his truck when the pole came falling toward him. The transformer broke open and fluid leaked out, according to McCabe.
