A new warship named for a Navy SEAL who died in Afghanistan arrived in Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, its new homeport, Wednesday.
The Navy says the USS Michael Murphy honors a Navy lieutenant who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during a 2005 ambush.
Military officials say Murphy risked being shot when he radioed a base for help after his four-man team was surrounded. He died in battle. Only one man in his squad survived.
A traditional Hawaiian blessing, the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band and a hula performance welcomed the ship to Pearl Harbor.
