The Board of Water Supply said crews responded Tuesday night to a 6-inch waterline break that feeds a fire hydrant near 41-1517 Kalanianaole Highway.
The break was reported around 7 p.m. Tuesday, requiring the closure of the road and knocking out water service.
The road was reopened and water restored around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Water officials said severe road damage forced the closure of the highway.
Makapuu-bound traffic was diverted into Poalima Street and then onto Hihimanu Street.
The hydrant line involved in the break was originally installed in 1963.
