Trends & Talkers: Laniakea Traffic BarriersUPDATED 7:01 PM HST Dec 24, 2013Video Transcript
PAUSE FOR MUSIC The state's solution to the traffic tangle on the North Shore has you fired up tonight. Yesterday we told you about how the DOT has installed barriers near Laniakea Beach to prevent people from parking across the street. It's all to discourage people from stopping, parking and jaywalking, creating massive traffic jams along the highway. Most of you, think this is a lousy solution. On Facebook, Tae Basta writes, "We lost a couple of business by DOT putting up barriers without any notice... How about ban commercial vehicles at Laniakea or charge them to park and use that money to hire off duty police to control the traffic? Margo Lynn K. Correia says, "Whoever owns that land use your head and make parking for the people." And Shawn Chang adds, "Pretty soon going to need a boat to get to most surf spots and beaches." The DOT plans to leave the barriers in place for the next month, and then review how it's working. We want to know what you think of the barriers? So head to facebook, like us, and let us know.
