The city and county of Honolulu selling prime lots on golf course
Golf-view homes are about to become obstructed-view homes for dozens of people in Ewa. The city and county of Honolulu are about to sell some prime lots that have been sitting empty for more than a decade.
The city acquired the lots through the acquisition of the Ewa Villages revitalization project. Those in the neighborhood said they've been blindsided.
Now that 57 lots are going up for sale, homeowners are thinking, "There goes the neighborhood."
"We didn't expect them to start building. They didn't give us any notice or anything like that so we thought they weren't going to build because they haven't for so long," said neighbor Melissa Roach.
"It would be best if they don't because it's nice. It's nice just looking at that not so crowded," said neighbor Joshua Jaggers.
The lots average just over 5,400 square feet. They will front the 11th through 17th holes. Some say the best part of this area is how quiet it is.
"When they start building, it's going to be pretty loud and it's going to be pretty crowded for space for other cars to get through as well," said Roach.
Construction will be single-family homes.
Longtime neighbors said they do have to watch out for flying golf balls.
But for first time movers, it's not the hooks and slices, but the foot-wedge from developers that has them teed off.
"I don't know how I feel about so many houses coming up at once, and I wonder how that will affect the value of our home," said Celeste Tefan.
The lots are getting sold in an "as is" "where is" condition. The sale proceeds will credit the city's housing fund and pay down debt.
The lots start at $180,000; the deadline for sealed bids is Feb. 25. After that date, the bids will be publicly opened.
