Teen found dead at Sandy Beach identified

Maycry, 17, died from head injuries

 UPDATED 5:43 PM HST Apr 12, 2013

The 17-year-old boy found dead near Sandy Beach Park early Friday morning has been identified as Boyd Shiro Maycry of Kalihi, according to the medical examiner.

Maycry died from head injuries.  Additional information is deferred pending further investigation.

Honolulu police say an officer found the teenager on Kalanianaole Highway just before 2:30 a.m.

Police say Maycry was with friends and his brother at Sandy Beach Park.  They're not sure how he ended up on the road.

Police have now classified the case as a suspicious death.  Investigators initially thought it was a hit-and-run.  But, his injuries turned out not to be consistent with a hit-and-run.  They say he may have been a passenger in a vehicle.

Kalanianaole Highway was closed between Kealahou Street and Sandy Beach during the investigation.

The road was reopened at around 5:30 a.m.

We will have more on this story, including an interview with Maycry's family, tonight on KITV4 News at 5, 6 and 10.
