Suspected shooting turns out to be medical emergency
Man's varicose vein burst in Waikiki
A suspected shooting in Waikiki turned out to be a medical emergency Monday morning, according to police.
Officers were called to Kuhio Avenue and Kanekapolei Street at around 9:45 a.m. Some roads in the area were closed off during the investigation.
Waikiki resident Steven Pritz said he saw several officer combing the area with their guns drawn.
After a police investigation, it was determined that no one was shot and roads were reopened at around 10:25 a.m.
The city's Emergency Services Department spokeswoman Shayne Enright said a man's varicose vein had burst and there was a lot of blood, which some people thought was the result of a shooting.
