Allegiant Air delays leave passengers stuck
Stuck in paradise, but not by choice. One airline had major mechanical issues leading to delays in an out of Honolulu.
Many passengers checking-in with Allegiant Airlines were upset to say the least.
"I'm extremely frustrated and I filed some reports, hopefully they respond to it," said passenger Chris Hayes.
Flights were delayed not just for hours but for days.
"I was supposed to leave Saturday morning and today it's Monday afternoon," said Joe Card boarding the Honolulu to Las Vegas flight.
Allegiant Air said the problem was an unfortunate coincidence. Three different planes had three completely different problems, all at the same time. This cost some people a lot of extra cash.
"I came out here with a couple friends and they are out almost $500 to $600 right now just on their connecting flights, from what they ordered," said Eric Anderson.
But, sticking through the delay presented other problems.
"I was supposed to be home for my son this morning to take him to school, and I had to make arrangements for that, and work back in Las Vegas, it was pretty tough," said Hayes.
However, out of all the places they could get stuck, paradise isn't so bad.
"I can't complain about being here two days extra here on the island," said Anderson.
Allegiant Air is known for its low prices, with the slogan "Travel is our deal," but for some the deal wasn't worth the wait. Many said they wouldn't be flying with Allegiant again.
The airline said all the mechanical problems have been fixed and all the flights should be back on schedule.
Passengers did get hotel accommodations and food vouchers. The airline also said passengers had the option to reschedule, cancel for a credit refund, or reschedule a later flight.
