New calls for Hawaii County clerk’s resignation
“We've all been very, very stressed,” said State Elections Commissioner Margaret Masunaga.
At one of its last meetings before the general, the elections commission tried to stay positive, but it was clear, officials are still dodging one landmine after another.
“Part of it is just to get rid of the negativity,” said Masunaga.
Still outstanding:
The ethics complaint against Hawaii County Chair Dominic Yagong.
The investigation into possible 2010 voter fraud on the Big Island.
Recently dismissed:
Four court challenges against this year's primary results, including one by Senator Daniel Akaka's granddaughter, who like the other plaintiffs, said the elections mess on the Big Island hurt their campaign.
“We've been very concerned,” said Janet Mason, Vice President of the Hawaii League of Women Voters.
She says the political watchdog and voter advocacy organization wants Hawaii County Clerk Jamae Kawauchi, accused of poor communication and planning, fired.
