John Koko dedication nearing release
Funeral services for famed musician John Koko will be held this Friday and Saturday. The bass player from the Makaha Sons died in June leaving behind thousands of fans.
Now, musician Del Beazley, together with Jerome Koko and Moon Kaukahi, have put together a musical tribute that will soon be available to download for free.
Beazley penned the song "Just A Little" just days following the death of his longtime friend.
"John and I, our musical careers, started off at the same age and he taught me my first guitar lick and the Kokos lived four houses down from my grandmother," said Beazley.
On this Monday, Beazley was join in the Bu-Print Studio by Makaha Sons Moon Kaukahi and Jerome Koko to lay down the tracks for this song.
"So I just thought this piece of music to honor my friend and it's a song with a message, I guess," said Beazley. "It says take care of things, take care of the ones you love everyday."
Producer Kapena De Lima mixed the tracks. You couldn't help but feel the aloha, and perhaps mana in the studio.
"John's spirit is in this song and we miss him dearly. Did you hear that rumble?" said Beazley.
The song even pays homage to his trademark name with the lyrics, "Just a little bit of that Kokolicious smile."
"The song does such a great job embodying his personality and spirit," said De Lima. "When I hear the song all I could think about was his smile and his laughter."
