Some loyal Kanemitsu's Bakery customers in Molokai are upset that the popular bakery remains closed.

"I've been going to this bakery for over 70 years.   I'm 72 now, never once I've had any one of my family complain about a bread or anything was wrong with it," said Lawrence Kalilikane.

"I originally am from Alaska, and I never had better bread than I did here at this bakery," Patricia Palmer.

In June, the health department sent an inspector to investigate an anonymous complaint that bug parts and rodent droppings were found in bread. The inspector reported a mouse running along the wall of the food preparation area, and another in an aluminum tray used to bake bread.

On Sept. 9, another inspector, Dean Kagawa, went back to the bakery. He explained the bad results to bakery owner, George Kanemitsu.

"I was sent here because we agreed that these things would all be done and I was just going to verify that they are all done. But you can see how my report is going to indicate that it's not done," said Kagawa.

That result angered Kanemitsu.

"I'll tell you what, between you and me, it'll never be done. You know what I'm saying, it's never going to be done because you guys are in for me," Kanemitsu.

The bakery did correct many of the deficiencies reported in June, but the health department says there are still corrections that need to be made such as openings in the walls and ceilings where vermin and bugs can enter.
