The Sheriff Department Fugitive Unit says it caught escapee Darius Punimau Thursday morning.

Punimau allegedly escaped from Circuit Court on Wednesday.  He was arrested at the Safeway at the corner of Pali Highway and Vineyard Boulevard at 10 a.m. without incident.

Punimau pleaded guilty in August to illegally entering a home and abusing a family member.  He was set to be sentenced on Halloween day.

According to the sheriff's department, because of a backlog at court, Punimau was taken behind a security desk where he was waiting for his attorney.  He apparently escaped through the ceiling.

For most of Wednesday afternoon, public safety officials thought there were two escapees.  But, one of the men wasn't missing at all -- he had been taken back to OCCC and there was confusion over when he left.
