Kauai wastewater personnel responded to a sewage spill that occurred Tusday morning along the shoulder of Kaumualii Highway near the Hanapepe fire and pump stations.

The spill was reported at approximately 6:50 a.m., and is estimated to be between 50 and 100 gallons of raw wastewater, according to Kauai officials.

Hana Road is temporarily closed to allow pumper trucks and contractors unhindered access to the affected area.

Wastewater officials are continuing to assess the situation and have not yet determined the cause of the spill.
