KITV4 has learned that Sen. Daniel Inouye was in the hospital Thursday after falling in his apartment in Maryland.

Inouye was treated at the Bethesda Naval Hospital for a "minor cut to the back of his head."

The 88-year-old senator was treated and released.

Inouye's spokesman says the senator never lost consciousness and remained alert and talking.

In a statement to KITV Peter Boylan said, "The U.S. Army Captain and World War II combat veteran wanted to put a bandage on and come to work but his family insisted he get it checked out.
