U.S. Army Garrison Hawaii is implementing additional mitigation measures at Schofield Barracks' McNair and Macomb Gates to help increase afternoon traffic flow on Wilikina Drive.
Schofield traffic exiting McNair Gate will be limited to right turns only south on Wilikina Drive from 5 a.m. through 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Left turns into McNair Gate from Wilikina Drive will not be allowed during these same hours.
Schofield traffic exiting Macomb Gate will now be limited to left turns only north on Wilikina Drive from 4 p.m. through 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Left turns into Macomb Gate from Wilikina Drive will be allowed during these hours.
These measures take effect Thursday, Sept. 27, and were implemented following the latest coordination meeting held yesterday between the Army, Honolulu Police Department and the Department of Transportation as the agencies continue to evaluate the traffic situation since the Karsten Thot Bridge closures began.
HPD officers will remain at key intersections during these times to facilitate traffic flow.
Schofield Barracks and Wheeler Army Airfield will continue the mitigation measures put in place last week when the bridge originally closed, which included modifying traffic patterns at Schofield’s Lyman Gate and Wheeler’s Kawamura Gate to accommodate a higher volume of traffic during peak hours.
