HMC West Queens proposal
For the first time, the details of the possible sale and renovation of the Hawaii Medical Center West were released.
The Queens Medical Center is offering just over $73 million. The breakdown is as follows:
- $21 million to buy the former HMC West Campus.
- $25 million for construction projects. $18 for equipment.
- $9 million for moving costs.
HMC shut down its East and West campuses last December.
Lawmakers hope a new deal will not mean scaled back services.
But Queen's plans to match the number of beds, 134, previously offered by HMC West, and lawmakers like what they see.
"I guess for me, one of the things we want to make sure is that this hospital is open for a long, long time. So, they need to get these initial steps correct, by making sure that contract and that relationship is solid," said Rep. Ryan Yamane.
Queen's needs 10 more permits and licenses before it can reopen the facility -- hopefully by next July.
The public has until Aug. 13 to submit testimony, or ask for a public meeting on the transfer.
