Search for armed man in Ala Wai
Honolulu Police spent several hours Saturday evening searching for an armed man at Ala Moana Beach Park.
Police say the man, who they are not identifying at this hour, tried to steal a boat around 6 p.m. at the Waikiki Yacht Club.
The man, armed with a knife, wanted to take the boat. He claimed he needed to go to back to the mainland.
Several officers were on a boat for three hours trying to coax him out while Honolulu Fire Department were on scene to shine light on the water.
The man eventually complied and swam near the channel entrance leading to the Waikiki Yacht Club where officers arrested him at 8:30 p.m.
During the arrest one officer was slightly injured.
The man will be charged with one count of property damage to a boat, trespassing, terrorist threatening, assault of a police officer and resisting arrest.
