HONOLULU -

Honolulu police are asking the public for help after receiving new information on a man missing for more than 16 years.

On Nov. 18, 1996, Rick Calhau was last seen by his wife at their home in Kaneohe.  He told her that he was going to a friend's home in Kalihi.

Calhau's vehicle was located near the intersection of Koauka Street and Moanalua Road fronting Our Savior Lutheran Church in Aiea.  The vehicle was described as a brown 1991 Ford pickup truck.

Calhau's mother, Pat, still lives on Oahu.  She says the call from police on Thursday shocked her.

"I'm just glad that they are looking into it again," said Pat Calhau.  "He was just missing.  One day he was here.  The next day he was gone."

She says Rick's wife got remarried.

Pat says she is not holding out hope that he is OK.

"He was too close to family to stay way this long," said Pat Calhau.  "Gave up hope he return long ago."
