HONOLULU -

Honolulu police say a Kaneohe man in his early 30s died after a high-speed motorcycle crash overnight on the Likelike Highway at the Wilson Tunnel.

The crash happened at around 11:45 p.m. Monday in the Kaneohe direction of the highway.

"When officers got there, they found a male in his early 30s who had been separated from his motorcycle on the roadway.  Located inside the tunnel was his motorcycle," said Lt. Bobby Towne of the Honolulu Police Department's Traffic Division.

Paramedics say the man died at the scene.

Investigators have confirmed that the man involved in the crash hit a guard rail and was thrown from his motorcycle.  Police say the motorcyclist may have been driving at around 100 mph and alcohol may be a possible factor in the crash.

Police also say the road was wet and slick when the crash occurred.

It does not appear that any other vehicle was involved in the crash.

The highway was reopened at around 2:35 a.m. Tuesday.

This is the 18th traffic fatality on Oahu in 2013 compared to 17 at this time last year.
