KIHEI, Hawaii -

Maui County police say a 49-year-old woman was struck by a truck in Kihei Monday afternoon and died from her injuries.

The woman was identified as Lynnette Marie Korinko.

It happened at around 4 p.m. on Piilani Highway near Waipuilani Road.

Police say Korinko was walking on the Wailea side of Waipuilani Road toward Piilani Highway.  Once she reached the highway, she paused for Wailea bound traffic to clear.

Korinko walked across the two Wailea bound lanes and stopped on the double solid yellow lines.  After waiting for traffic to go by, she began crossing the two Maalaea bound lanes.  Police say once she reached the outside lane, the truck hit her.

This intersection does not have a crosswalk.  This intersection also does not allow vehicles coming from Waipulani Road to turn left onto Piilani Highway, according to police.

The driver and passenger in the truck were not injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

This is Maui County's second traffic fatality of the year compared to three at this time last year.
