Police: 2 suspects in custody in Kalihi homicide case

Houghtailing off-ramp reopened after police investigation

Honolulu police say two suspects were in custody Friday morning after an apparent assault in Kalihi that left one man dead.

Officers closed the Houghtailing Street off-ramp from the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction and Halona Street between Kohou Street and Houghtailing Street due to the investigation.  These areas were closed just before 4 a.m.  The off-ramp was reopened shortly after 8 a.m.

Police say at around 2:30 a.m., they got a call for a group of men chasing another man.

At around 3 a.m., Emergency Medical Services officials say a man in his 20s or 30s was found on Halona Street with apparent unexplained trauma.

The man was pronounced dead at 3:40 a.m.
