The Transportation Security Administration blog reported that a passenger tried to smuggle three knives onto a plane in a beverage container last week at Honolulu International Airport.
A TSA spokesman says on Sunday, Jan. 20, a man at the interisland terminal was booked on Hawaiian Airlines flight 312 to Hilo.
The man tried to go through the security checkpoint with three knives. TSA screeners found the knives. The screeners told the man the knives can only go in checked luggage and he can put them in his luggage.
About 20 minutes later, the man was back at the TSA checkpoint. This time, the screeners found the knives in a beverage container.
TSA confiscated the knives and, because it was his second attempt, law enforcement was notified.
Law enforcement officials determined the man was not a security threat so he was allowed to fly.
The man was not arrested but the TSA can later levy civil penalties.
