Kauai County Ocean Safety officials say Hanalei Bay lifeguards will be keeping swimmers out of the water in the area west of the Hanalei Pier on Tuesday.
A high surf advisory remains in effect for all north and west facing shores on Kauai as well as the north facing shores of Oahu, Molokai, Maui and the Big Island.
Rough ocean conditions, strong winds and cloudy skies are being reported on Kauai's North Shore, and officials are advising beach goers to consult lifeguards before entering the water.
According to the National Weather Service, high surf is expected through this afternoon with waves of up to 15 feet along north and west facing shores. Strong shore breaks and rip currents will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
Beach goers are urged to visit Po'ipu or Salt Pond beaches and are reminded to swim near a lifeguard tower.
