Back in August of 1992, police shot Ulysses Kim in Makiki Heights, after he took a television news photographer hostage with a gun.
Kim was a convicted robber who fled from state deputies. They were trying to serve him a warrant for violating his parole by testing positive for cocaine.
Just two months ago, two inmates escaped from the Hawaii Community Correctional Facility in Hilo by beating up a prison guard, then stealing a car.
One escapee was detained two days later. The other eluded capture for more than week.
