The closest fireworks to Kailua may be around the corner in Hawaii Kai.

Organizers of the Independence Day at Maunalua Bay event said they could use all the help they can get to make ends meet.

"We are going to have our 4th of July show. We signed the contract. We still need $35,000 to cover all or our costs. We are going to ask all of our venders to be patient with us. We will continue to raise funds from now and at the event," said Diane Gley.

Gley said the public can help support the show by buying t-shirts or making a tax-free donation on-line.

The East Honolulu event draws thousands of families.

This year, Walgreens and rail contractor Ansaldo, are among the corporate sponsors.
