Neves chosen as new Honolulu fire chief
New chief is a 32-year veteran of HFD
The Honolulu Fire Commission named a new fire chief for the Honolulu Fire Department on Thursday.
The Honolulu Fire Commission chose Manny Neves as the 34th fire chief for the Honolulu Fire Department.
The commission interviewed nine candidates after former chief Kenneth Silva retired last December.
Neves is a 32-year veteran of HFD.
"Our firefighters serve the community. We have to make sure we give them the right resources, training and, most importantly, make sure they go home everyday," said Neves.
Neves left HFD in 2011 to serve as the fire chief for the Barking Sands Fire Department in Kekaha on Kauai.
He will start his new job on Feb. 16.
