A 57-year-old man was in critical condition Saturday after nearly drowning off Kaneohe Bay near the sand bar.

Officials with the Honolulu Fire Department said three people were on a catamaran that flipped over about 4 p.m.

Authorities said the 57-year-old victim was handicapped and had no use of his legs.

He was taken to shore by a kayak and transported  to an area hospital.
