HILO, Hawaii -

One of two men accused of murdering a Hawaiian Acres man on the Big Island appeared in a Hilo courtroom on Tuesday.

Family members of the victim, 44-year-old Dante Peter Gilman, were in the courtroom.

Police say there's surveillance video of two cousins, Claude Krause and Kawena Krause, killing Gilman at the victim's home.  But, none of the video evidence was shown in court on Tuesday.

Claude Krause, 30, waived his right to a preliminary hearing and the judge granted the request.  So, none of the evidence could be presented in court.

Police say the video shows Claude Krause shooting Gilman with a rifle and Kawena Krause strangling Gilman.

Gilman's family and friends, including Gilman's sister who traveled from Washington to be in court, could only watch as Claude Krause left the courtroom.

Claude Krause's next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 12.

As for his cousin, 19-year-old Kawena Krause, his attorney requested that a mental evaluation be completed before more court appearances.

The defense will have to submit that evaluation by Feb. 19, seven days before Kawena Krause is next scheduled to appear in court.
