Motorcycle crash kills 24-year-old man
Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam confirmed Monday that an Air Force Staff Sergeant died Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash in Wahiawa.
Honolulu police said the Kapolei man was 24 years old.
The crash happened on Kamehameha Highway and California Avenue at 2:45 p.m.
Investigators said the motorcyclist and the van may have been "pushing" the yellow light at California Avenue, when the crash occurred.
The motorcyclist was traveling townbound on Kamehameha Highway, when the van turned left in front of him. Witnesses say the motorcycle hit the van with such force, the motorcyclist's helmet came off, and he flew through the air.
The man was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital where he died from severe head trauma and internal injuries.
Alcohol, drugs and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash and the cause is under investigation.
