Family of Kaneohe woman speaks
The family of 38-year-old Lany Salva is begging the driver who hit her, to come forward.
"It was wrong what you did," said Sam Salva, Lany's oldest son. "At least surrender. My family is a mess right now."
Honolulu police say a truck hit the Kaneohe woman at a crosswalk along Kamehameha Highway near Pahia Road Tuesday night and fled the scene. Her family says she was walking to her overnight shift at a gas station, less than a quarter mile from the family's home.
"It's hard right now," said Norman Salva, the victim's husband. "It hurts, it's hard to accept my wife passed away in a second."
The family says Lany was a devoted mother who worked two jobs to support the family. Lany's son fights to hold back tears, as he talks about the loss of his mother.
"She was a great mom, she was just amazing," said the victim's son. "She's the best mom out there, I really miss her."
Lany leaves behind a husband and three children; the youngest just two years old. Police are looking for a truck with front-end damage. Police say the driver will be charged with failing to render aid. If you have any information about this fatal accident you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 955-8300.
