Mother of stabbing victim appeals for public’s help
The family of Brent Keola Kanae gathered at the steps of police headquarters Tuesday.
His mother made an appeal to anyone who may have seen anything that may lead them to the young man's killer.
"Please come forward. Your help could be the missing piece we need toward solving our son's case. Keola surely didn’t deserve to die the way he did," said Dale Kehau Kanae.
Kanae was found bleeding in a stairwell at Ala Moana Center at about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The medical examiner said he died from wounds to his heart and lungs.
Investigators are trying to piece together what led to the attack.
His family said they just returned from a trip to Disneyland the day before.
And it was to be Brent's first day back on the job at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
"He was excited because he bought some gifts for friends and he was to meet them for lunch and he was on his way to work," said Kanae.
His mother said since word of his death spread, the family has felt an outpouring of aloha.
