Mother of Kalani soccer player dies
Klink, 52, suffered brain hemorrhage during championship game
The mother of a high school soccer player has died after suffering a severe brain hemorrhage while watching her son play for Kalani High School in the State Soccer Championship game, at the Waipio Soccer Complex according to the Kalani High School athletics director.
Leo Klink kicked the winning penalty kick in the overtime tiebreaker against Punahou and was quickly whisked off the field to be at his mother's side.
Hiroyo Klink, 52, died Tuesday at 12:35 p.m. at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center with her family at her side.
Kalani Athletics Director Gregory Van Cantfort said the family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation, as they have been overwhelmed with the outpouring of love, support and prayers from the soccer community and the entire state.
A trust fund has been set up at the Bank of Hawaii and donations can be made at any Bank of Hawaii to the Leo Klink Fund.
Funeral services are pending.
