Maui County fire crews battled a mobile transformer fire at a Maui Electric substation Tuesday morning, according to fire officials.
Crews were initially called to Puukolii Road in Lahaina just after 6:30 a.m. for a brush fire.
MECO says about 1,000 customers in Puukolii and Kaanapali were without power.
Firefighters had the blaze contained and extinguished by 7:45 a.m.
Power was restored in increments by 7:50 a.m. The majority of customers affected, about 800, were brought back online at 12:38 p.m. The remaining customers got power just before 1 p.m.
No injuries were reported. The fire cause was undetermined.
Damage to the mobile transformer was estimated at $1,000,000.
