A juvenile girl is sexually assaulted in broad daylight in Honolulu. Crimestoppers is now asking for your help to find the man who got away.
The assault happened on Alohea Avenue near Kapiolani Community College where police say a middle school girl was assaulted just after 8 a.m. Thursday morning.
"A male approached her, he touched her, and basically tried to lead her to go with him, and when she refused he walked away," said Sgt. Kim Buffett with Crimestoppers.
Police said the girl ran towards Makapuu Avenue and continued to Kaimuki Middle School where she told school officials what happened.
Neighbors say they're shocked.
"It's a safe neighborhood so I see a lot of the kids walking to school early in the morning. It's not just middle school it's elementary. They are young," said neighbor Stacy Tacub.
"I run at night that makes me even more freaked out because I don't think someone is going to come up to me and harass me," said neighbor Neysa Larosa-Nakasone.
Police describe the suspect as a male in his 20s, 5-feet-8-inches-tall to 6-feet-tall, thin build, wearing a black t-shirt, black denim long pants, a green jacket, and carrying two large duffel bags on his back.
Neysa Larosa-Nakasone said she won't go running for the next couple of days just to be safe, but said she'll be active on Instagram and Facebook posting the suspects picture.
"I'm going to make sure all my friends see this. It's a small area, a small community," said Larose-Nakasone.
Investigators want everyone in the area to remain vigilant as they continue their manhunt.
"We do really encourage these kids to don't walk with earphones in, and make sure they can hear if someone is coming up behind them," said Sgt. Buffett.
Police also said students in the area should try not to walk alone. They said if you see the suspect do not approach him, just call Crimestoppers at 955-8300.
