A Maui police officer shot and killed a man in Kihei Tuesday after the man allegedly pulled a handgun on the officer, according to a Maui County official.
Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle parked at the Mana Kai Maui Resort. When officers arrived at 11:20 a.m., they found a suspect in the vehicle.
Police said the suspect attempted to run away and allegedly pulled out a handgun and pointed it at one of the officers.
The officer responded by firing his weapon at the suspect.
The shooting victim has been identified as Marshall M.K. Langford of Wailuku.
Officers are searching for a second suspect.
The police officer involved in the shooting is an 18-year veteran of the Maui Police Department, assigned to Kihei Patrol. He is on administrative leave pending an investigation as part of standard procedure by Maui police.
