Maui police are looking for a vehicle they believe struck and killed a 31-year-old woman in Waiehu early Friday morning.
The victim has been identified as Brandy Ann Mendes of Waiehu.
Police are looking for a dark red metallic 1997-2002 C hevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra-type vehicle. The vehicle will have front end damage and possibly the passenger's side headlight will be damaged or missing.
Just before 6 a.m., the woman was found unresponsive lying along the northbound shoulder of Kahekili Highway, about 0.1 miles south of Kamaile Street on the Waihee side of Happy Valley.
Mendes was walking toward Waihee on the makai side of the road when a vehicle traveling in the same direction struck her sometime between 7:40 p.m. Thursday and 5:50 a.m. Friday. The vehicle fled in the Waihee direction.
If you have any information that may lead police to the driver, please call CrimeStoppers at (808) 242-6966.
