Maui fire investigators say a fire started on the roof of the Hawaiian Canoe Club Hale Thursday night was intentionally set.
Witnesses told firefighters they saw a male in his late teens taking a cigarette lighter to the roof covering around 8:30 p.m. The fire damaged a 100 square foot section of the structure before a fire sprinkler system extinguished the flames. A brand new outrigger canoe which was stored in the Hale was also partially damaged.
