WAILUKU, Hawaii -

A sentimental photograph of members of the famed 442nd Regimental Combat team has been returned to the Maui family of a late Japanese-American World War II veteran.

The photo disappeared during a chaotic estate sale at the Kahului home of Russell Shigeru Takashima over the weekend.  The Maui News reports family members say the photo showed up in a trash bag on his yard Wednesday morning.

His daughter Faith Minyard says the back of the framed photo was a little torn and got wet from the rain.  The bag had no note.

Takashima was 90 years old when he died Aug. 17.

The photo is signed by some of the men from the highly decorated combat team of second-generation Japanese-Americans.  They received the Congressional Gold Medal last year.
