Marijuana supporters turn out for cannabis festival
April 20 is a day known to many cannabis supporters as the time to light up.
On Saturday, they celebrated with a rally to decriminalize marijuana.
Marijuana supporters turned out for Hawaii's Cannabis Bluecard Festival in Kaka'ako.
They believe it's time to stop incarcerating adults that use the plant for personal and recreational use.
"The plant is not evil. This legislative body has treated the plant as if the plant is evil and that's not the case," said Tom Berg of NORML HI.
Berg spoke at the pro-marijuana rally at the State Capitol on Friday. A bill that would decriminalize marijuana was snuffed out in the State House earlier this month.
Currently, it's a petty misdemeanor to possess 20 grams or less of pot and is punishable by up to 30 days in jail and $1,000 fine.
