Man arrested for arson in Kalihi fire
The Honolulu Fire Department said a 44-year old man was arrested Tuesday suspected of intentionally setting fire to a home in Kalihi.
Fire crews responded to the two-alarm house fire at around 6:11 a.m on Leilani Street.
Fire officials said the flames started in the living room on the second story of the house and quickly spread to other areas.
A 66-year-old man was hospitalized in stable condition for fire-related injuries. The fire was contained just after 6:30 a.m.
The arson suspect was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation of his mental status. He is a resident of the home that burned.
Red Cross officials are assisting the family.
Damage was estimated at $75,000.
