A man who stabbed two people on a trail at Koko Head Crater two years ago will attend classes at Windward Community College unsupervised.
The city prosecutor's office said Judge Richard Perkins has agreed to allow Benjamin Davis to leave the Hawaii State Hospital two days a week to take classes at the Windward Oahu campus.
Mental health experts say it is therapeutic.
Davis was acquitted of attempted murder after being diagnosed as a schizophrenic.
Davis attacked Guy Tanaka then stabbed Nicolas Iwamoto 18 times and tried to throw him off the cliff in February 2009.
Iwamoto had to undergo several surgeries and wore a neck brace during a long recovery.
Iwamoto's Facebook page says he has since moved to the mainland.
