An 87-year-old man died Wednesday morning after he was hit by a truck tractor while walking in a marked crosswalk in Wailuku, according to Maui County Police.
The man was identified as Bomani Kim of Wailuku.
Police say the crash occurred on Eha Street at the intersection of Waena Street just before 6:45 a.m.
A yellow 2000 Kenworth commercial truck tractor was traveling northwest on Waena Street when it failed to stop at a stop sign at Eha Street and turned right and ran over the pedestrian, according to police.
The driver of the truck tractor is a 44-year-old man from Makawao. He was not injured.
Police are investigating if alcohol, speed and drug use may have contributed to the collision.
This is Maui County's 16th traffic fatality this year compared with seven at the same time last year.
