Emotional testimony in court Thursday from a teenager who says she was raped when she was 15 years old. This was the opening day in the trial of a 46-year-old man accused of attacking her.
In May 2011, the Makaha girl waited at an Ala Moana Shopping Center bus stop for a ride home. The decision she made there completely changed her life.
"She only had a dollar left in her pocket and she was worried she missed the last bus out to the county," said Deputy Prosecutor Thalia Murphy. "She made a mistake. She accepted a ride from a stranger."
Prosecutors say that stranger is Dewitt Long. He was charged with two counts of felony sex assaults.
The victim took the stand on Thursday. She said after he picked her up, Long took her to two Tesoro gas stations where he picked up condoms.
During these stops, the girl said she tried to escape but the child locks on the doors prevented her from getting out.
The teenager said the man, who she only knew as an acquaintance, drove her to the Pacific Marina Inn near the airport.
"The defendant took it by force. He put her arm on her throat and he pinned her down and took her clothes off, except for her bra, as she fought to keep it on," said Murphy.
Long's attorney maintains his client's innocence.
"He will testify in this case, I believe, and he will explain what happened that night and that in no way shape or form did he have any contact with this person," said attorney Jeff Hawk.
