Koko of The Makaha Sons dies
John Koko of the legendary Hawaiian music trio The Makaha Sons died Monday afternoon, according to his family.
The Makaha Sons was comprised of Koko, who played bass, his brother Jerome, and Louis "Moon" Kauakahi.
According to The Makaha Sons website, the group began as The Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau in 1976 with five members, including Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.
John Koko was raised in Nanakuli and started his musical career when he was just 12 years old.
Koko is survived by his wife, Toni, and four sons. He was 51 years old.
