Lokelani Intermediate School was closed Thursday due to a power outage, according to the Maui School District.

About 600 students attend the school.

School will be back in session Friday, according to Bruce Anderson, superintendent of the Baldwin-Kekaulike-Maui Complex.

Anderson said there was a power outage in Kihei on Wednesday and thought it was connected to that outage.  School was closed because officials did not know what would happen when the system was turned back on.

However, the outage at Lokelani was a different electrical problem.  Anderson said it took a while to get crews to assess the possible hazards and make repairs.
